Beyond the buzz: Lessons on data and AI from SportsPro NYC.
March 16, 2026

There is a specific, positive energy to New York in the spring, and last week at the Marriott Marquis, that energy was matched by the sense of optimism across the sports media landscape. Last week, at SportsPro NYC 2026, the conversation shifted from the “what ifs” of digital transformation to the incredible “how tos” of the modern fan experience.
The REDspace team spent the week immersed in the best the industry has to offer. From inspiring sessions to deep-dive chats over coffee at Rockefeller Center, through the vibrant halls of Chelsea Market, and an unforgettable evening at TikTok’s NYC office, one thing was clear: we are entering a golden age of sports media execution.
As we shared insights with colleagues from leagues, rights holders, and broadcasters, three major opportunities emerged, leaving us incredibly excited for the years ahead.
Unlocking the true potential of fan data.
The most interesting conversations we had centred on the massive opportunities within fan data. From teams and leagues down to venues and rights holders, rather than seeing data as a hurdle, the industry is seeing it as a bridge to deeper connection.
We are helping our partners move toward a world where data is as fast as the game itself. By creating “active pipelines,” we’re ensuring that every bit of fan engagement, no matter the amount or type, can be used to create a more relevant, exciting, and personalized experience for the fan. It’s about making sure the right content finds the right person at exactly the right moment.
The bright future of Applied AI.
While much of the world is talking about what AI might do someday, the sports executives we met are focusing on what Applied AI and Machine Learning can do right now to elevate the industry.
At REDspace, we view AI as the ultimate “accelerator” for media orchestration. We spent the week discussing how these technologies are already creating wins:
- Smarter Storytelling through Metadata: Using ML to automate the tagging and organization of content, making massive libraries instantly accessible and ready to delight fans with the perfect clip.
- Elevating the Fan Journey: Leveraging data to discover new ways to keep fans engaged. By using AI to sharpen personalization, we’re not just improving the user experience; we’re opening up new avenues for revenue and long-term brand loyalty.
The irreplaceable value of connection.
Discussing the success of our previous work with the NBA, NCAA, Paramount, and WBD is something we are always proud of; however, discussing the “Art of the Possible” with people reminded us why the human element is so vital.
In an era of incredible automation, human partnership is the ultimate competitive advantage. Being “in the room” in NYC was a powerful reminder that while we build the tech, it’s the relationships and shared visions that truly move the needle. There is no substitute for the trust and creativity that spark when friends and partners get together in a “post-pandy” (IYKYK) world.
Let’s build what’s next.
The common thread of the week was a shared enthusiasm for building better, faster, and more engaging platforms. The industry is ready for solutions that don’t just work, but wow.
At REDspace, we’ve returned from New York inspired and ready to turn these opportunities into reality. The energy of the event won’t fade just because the week is over.
What are you doing to turn your fan data into your biggest asset?
We’d love to talk about how we can help you bridge the gap between “great ideas” and “game-changing results.”
